You rarely have to charge an Apple Pencil. Moreover, the pen will be full again in no time, when the time comes. In this article, we explain how to charge an Apple Pencil.
Charging the Apple Pencil: that’s how it works
With the Apple Pencil you can sketch and draw naturally on your iPad. Unlike a real pen, you sometimes have to charge the stylus. How you power the Apple Pencil depends on the version.
1. Charging the first generation Apple Pencil
The first Apple Pencil works with almost all iPads, except for the iPad Pro (2018). Do you have an iPad Air or regular iPad? Then you use a first generation Apple Pencil. You charge this pin by connecting it to the Lightning connector of your tablet. To do this, first remove the cap. You can also power the Pencil with the included Lightning adapter.
2. Charge the new Apple Pencil
Are you drawing on the latest iPad Pro? Then you use the Apple Pencil 2. This pen has been improved in various areas compared to its predecessor. This has made charging even simpler. Simply click the Apple Pencil 2 onto the magnetic side of your iPad to power the stylus. After this you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
Are you using a protective case that covers the sides of your iPad Pro? You may need to disconnect it temporarily to charge your Apple Pencil. Contrary to what you might expect, you cannot charge the new stylus wirelessly. This is because the Apple Pencil 2 does not support the Qi standard.
3. Check battery level
Both Apple Pencils are energy efficient. The second generation can last for 12 hours after charging for 30 minutes. You can check the current battery level via the widget on your iPad. Activate this by swiping to the right on the home screen. Then scroll down and tap Edit. Then add the Apple Pencil widget by tapping the plus sign and choose Done when you’re done.
