No experience as an American taxi

It may be a bit of a ‘wrong’ car, but still a striking appearance, this Chevrolet Caprice. Colleague Joost Boers spotted the American.
Nothing to the detriment of Joost, but you don’t exactly have to have a sharp view to fall your eye on this Caprice. With its yellow paint and taxi-block pattern, you can’t easily overlook the colossus. Then it also helps that the Caprice with its thick 5.4 meters in length is quite out of place in the Dutch street scene. To stand out, that is undoubtedly what the owner had in mind.
Although the Caprice with its special color scheme seems to come straight from the New York street scene of the 1990s, we’re pretty sure it never drove around there as a taxi. According to the registration data, this Caprice is brand new on Dutch plates and, moreover, the car is actually silver-grey. You can still see that on the roof. Somewhere in its already 32-year existence, a wrap went over it once.
With such cars it sometimes seems to be more about the appearance than actually driving it, which we can understand in the Netherlands with a 5.0-liter V8 in the nose. Moreover, despite its modern appearance for its time, this Caprice was quite outdated and technically still largely the same as its predecessor. You can bet that you pay a nice penny per kilometer for this, not really the ideal taxi in that respect. Anyway: the current and only second owner seems quite pleased with it. The Caprice has been with the same owner for almost 14 years.
