More than half of all new passenger cars sold in China last year were fully electric. It is therefore not surprising that Chinese manufacturers do almost nothing else than introduce new EVs. Today we look at Baojun which has two new electric models ready.

The first newcomer from Baojun is slightly less new than the others, but is the happiest of the bunch. It shows a real pick-up based on the Yep shown in February. The Baojun Yep is a 3.38 meter short electric Suzuki Jimny-like with a modest 67 hp electric motor and a range of about 300 CLTC kilometers. Until now, the Yep was only available as a closed three-door, but it will also have a pick-up brother. It is not yet known when the Yep-with-loading box will enter the Chinese market.

Then the Baojun Yunduo, a perhaps more serious newcomer. That is an electric and relatively high hatchback that can best be compared in terms of shape with, for example, the Honda Jazz. It looks less toy-like than Yep’s other compact electric city rascals from the Chinese brand. Baojun has not yet released extensive technical data. We have already extracted the first information from the database of the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Information Technology. For example, we know that the Yunduo grows to be 4.3 meters long, 1.85 meters wide and 1.65 meters high. The EV has a wheelbase of 2.7 meters, weighs at least 1,495 kilos and gets a 136 hp electric motor that helps it reach a top speed of 150 km / h.

What exactly is Baojun? It was founded by the joint venture that General Motors has in China with SAIC Motor and Wuling Motor. The Wuling car brand is also part of that partnership. Baojun sells a fairly wide range of models in China, including the small electric E100, E200 and formerly called E300 – yes – Kiwi.
