Citroën ZX (1993) – Enthusiast Wanted

For most people, the Citroën ZX will not be a very striking car, but in our opinion it is certainly one that is now worth a second look. It also drives very nicely. If you want to experience that for yourself, then this copy from 1993 might be something for you.

Everyone can agree on one thing: the ZX was certainly not Citroën’s most striking creation. That was exactly how the French had thought of it, because the ZX had to attract more people to the brand. The regular Citroën customer liked a touch of extravagance, but with the ZX the manufacturer wanted to convince the more conservative driver. That went beyond just the looks, because once on the road the ZX certainly didn’t look as French as we were used to. The ZX even had a fairly sporty handling, where it was given a handy hand in the corners by the co-steering rear axle.

Unfortunately, the latter sometimes turned out to be the Achilles’ heel for the ZX, but this 1993 copy has made it to an age of 30 years. It certainly doesn’t stop there for this Citroën ZX, because with a verified mileage of only 141,990, there is undoubtedly still plenty of life in it. That’s how the car comes across in the photos, it seems to be a pretty neat copy here. That all four original hubcaps are still on and appear undamaged is probably a good indication. Although … we are a bit shocked that the car has already had eleven private owners. Apparently the love was often short-lived. In any case, the first love was strong, because the person who bought it new in 1993 only renounced it in 2016.

There may be a catch, so a thorough inspection is (in any case) recommended. That is also allowed with an asking price of €2,495. That’s not a get-in-and-go price for a ZX. If you decide to buy, then there is in any case a nicely executed ZX at your door. It is a 1.8 Aura, which has some nice options on board in addition to its smooth 101 hp four-cylinder. For example, the Frenchman has electrically operated windows at the front, central locking with remote control, power steering, a tachometer and painted exterior mirrors. Oh, the original cassette radio neatly integrated into the dashboard is also still there. What a luxury!
