Click & Grow Smart Garden 3 review
The Smart Garden 3 is it entry-level model from Click & Grow and accommodates three plant pods. You simply fill the water reservoir, place the pods and the rest largely takes care of itself. This system is ideal for those who want greenery in their home, without the hassle of pots, soil and daily maintenance.

Personally, I mainly use this smart indoor vegetable garden for my vegetarian cooking website Wessalicious.combut my technical interests are also discussed here. Thanks to the Click&Grow app you can accurately monitor the growth of your plants and herbs and receive useful tips. We also previously tested the Smart Garden 9 Pro on Apple Tips, this version also has Bluetooth for additional options.

Previously tested: Smart Garden 9 Pro
We previously tested the larger Click and Grow Smart Garden 9 Pro, a model that can accommodate nine plant pods and is equipped with a Bluetooth light that can be controlled via an app. While the Smart Garden 3 Designed specifically for small kitchens and beginners, the 9 Pro is aimed more at enthusiastic home cooks who wish to harvest salads, herbs and leafy vegetables from their own indoor herb garden every day.
The main distinction is capacity: the Smart Garden 3 can accommodate three plants at a time, while the Smart Garden 9/9 Pro has room for nine. The 9 Pro also has a larger water storage capacity, so you don’t have to refill the water as often. In addition, the 9 Pro has a smart lamp that offers an adjustable lighting schedule via Bluetooth and an app, unlike the Smart Garden 3, which works with a fixed, non-adjustable timer.
That’s how it works
Using the Click & Grow Smart Garden 3 is simple. You place the pods in the holders, fill the reservoir with water and plug it into the socket. After that, the Smart Garden 3 mainly has to do its work. The pods already contain seeds and nutrients, so you don’t have to sow or fertilize yourself.
After a few days you often see the first shoots appear. From that moment on it is mainly a matter of letting it grow slowly and adding water occasionally. The germination caps (mini greenhouse) retain heat and moisture during the first few days, so that the seeds germinate faster and more evenly.

As the plants grow, you can remove the caps and eventually hang the lamp higher with the included extensions. This ensures that the distance between the lamp and the plants remains correct, so that they have enough space to continue growing.
You can keep track of the water level with the indicator. Click and Grow recommends adding water once every one to two weeks in the initial phase and later, for mature plants, checking weekly. It is best to harvest when you need the herbs, fruits or flowers: regularly prune the tops and remove the outer leaves to keep the plant productive for longer. When a plant is exhausted, remove the pod and simply replace it with one new capsule.
Automatic lighting
The integrated timer of the Smart Garden 3 controls the light fully automatically: the lamp is on for 16 hours and off for 8 hours as standard. You can reset the cycle by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in; the lamp will then start a new 16 hour period from that moment on.

It is important to know that you cannot adjust or fine-tune this timer on the Smart Garden 3 itself; it has no WiFi or Bluetooth connection and no physical buttons for the light. If you want an adjustable lighting schedule or the ability to temporarily dim or turn off the light via your phone, the Pro models with Bluetooth lamp are the way to go.
No on/off button
Although the Smart Garden 3 is very useful, there are a number of shortcomings. First, it lacks a simple power button: Click and Grow indicates that the Smart Garden 3 (just like models 9 and 25) does not have a physical switch, so that the plants always receive the necessary lighting. If you want to turn off the light earlier, you have to pull the plug from the socket, which is not always practical.

In addition, the light timer is not adjustable; you are bound to the fixed 16-hour schedule and cannot set a shorter day or night mode without interrupting the power. The most practical thing is to plug it in in the morning so that the timer starts, or to use a smart plug that takes care of this for you.
Click & Grow app
The Click & Grow app is a useful addition for those who want to monitor their Smart Garden more closely. You connect your plants to the app, after which you receive information per plant about matters such as germination time, growth phase, care and approximately when you can harvest. This makes growing things feel a little more organized and you get useful notifications at the right time.

For the Smart Garden 3 the app is primarily an additional source of explanation and guidance, because the system itself already works largely automatically. With Bluetooth models such as the Smart Garden 9 Pro, the app goes one step further, because you can also adjust the lighting schedule and control the lighting directly. Especially for beginners, it is nice that the app helps you better understand what your plants need, without making it complicated.

REVIEW SCORE
The Click & Grow Smart Garden 3 is a smart and accessible way to grow fresh herbs and other small plants at home. The system is compact, easy to use and, above all, very fun to follow as everything slowly comes to life. With the help of the Click&Grow app you stay informed and receive useful tips about your cultivated plants and herbs.
Watering is easy thanks to the indicator, and the compact design of the Smart Garden 3 does not get in the way. However, the missing on/off button and the non-adjustable timer remain clear drawbacks. This is an attractive product for those looking for a low-maintenance courtyard garden or a suitable gift. The app is a nice extra, but not the reason to buy the system.

- App that guides you step by step
- Plants are sturdy, compact and produce good yields
- Compact and stylish design with space for 3 pods
