Let your iPhone fall out of your hands by accident and you immediately have a cracked screen. But what now?
Cracked screen? This is what you can do (and how you prevent it)
A cracked screen is one of the most annoying things that you can happen to with your iPhone (or other smartphone). And it can be quite expensive to repair such a screen.
Fortunately there are ways to deal with it, but repairing is ultimately a must. But where can you do that best? And how can you prevent you from looking at a cracked screen again in the future?

Such a crack can be small in the beginning, but if you have a bit of bad luck it will spread over the entire screen over time. With a small crack you can still temporarily consider leaving it that way. Especially when the crack is on the back of your iPhone. But also pay attention to these types of damage, because the sharp edges can injure you.
Don’t have it repaired (yet)
If you don’t have time to go to a repair shop right away, or you don’t have the money for it at the moment, you can try to temporarily cover the crack. Stick a piece of transparent tape over the broken screen to prevent more glass fragments from coming loose. You can also use a screen protector for this. You can ‘hide’ a crack at the back with a case.
Be aware that this is only a temporary solution. You run the chance that the crack will eventually increase. So have your device repaired as quickly as possible.

Nevertheless repair: you can’t escape it
The best solution is of course to have the screen fixed. There are different ways to do this:
- Apple Store: If you still have a warranty or applecare+, you can take your iPhone to an Apple Store for repair. If you don’t have that, you have to take into account that this can be pretty expensive. On the iPhone screen repair website You can see exactly how much it will cost from Apple;
- Cheap repair stores: There are also independent repair stores that offer screen repairs. This can often be cheaper than at Apple, but be careful. Some stores may not use the best parts (even if they say so);
- Do-it-yourself kits: For the most convenient users there are kits available with which you can replace your iPhone screen yourself. This can save some costs, but you do need the right tools and knowledge to do it right. Check the Even service repair website For more information.
Prevent cracked screen
There are several ways to protect your phone against traps or bumps. This of course does not give a full warranty, but it does ensure that your device is better off against a beating.
- Use a sturdy cover
A cover can offer good protection against fall or impact damage. Choose a cover that completely encloses your iPhone, including the corners. These are often the most vulnerable parts of your device. There are many different styles and materials to choose from. There are even robust covers that are specially designed to absorb the worst shocks; - Use a screen protector
A screen protector is a thin plastic or glass layer that you apply to the screen to prevent it from coming into direct contact with hard surfaces in the event of a fall. This can protect your screen against scratches and smaller cracks; - Be careful when holding your phone
This may be obvious, but be careful when you hold your iPhone. Especially while walking in a busy environment.
