Create a Windows recovery drive on a USB stick. The computer then copies all system files from the operating system to the USB stick.
Recovery station?
Does the PC no longer boot? That’s problematic. Manufacturers often do not include a recovery disc with new computers. Then create a recovery drive on a USB stick on which you put all the system files of the operating system. In case of problems, this will reinstall Windows on the computer.
Create recovery drive
Create a recovery drive on a USB stick like this:
- Connect a USB stick with at least 16 GB of free memory to the computer. This must be an empty USB stick.
- Click on the magnifying glass in the taskbar to open the search function.
- Type ‘recovery drive’ and then click recovery station.
- click on Yes.
- Put a check in Back up the system files to the recovery drive.
- click on Next one.
- After a while, the name of the USB stick will appear on the screen. click on Next one.
- click on To make.
- Windows now copies a large amount of files to the USB stick. This may take a while. Then click Complete.
System Repair Disc
If you don’t have a USB stick, you can also burn a recovery disc to a blank DVD. This is only possible on a computer with a DVD burner. Use this disk to recover the PC when Windows no longer starts up. For example, restore the computer to a previous situation or restore the PC using a system image. It is then necessary that you have created the system image at an earlier stage. To create a system repair disc:
- Click on the magnifying glass in the taskbar to open the search function.
- Type ‘Control Panel’.
- click on Control Panel.
- Under ‘System and Security’, click Backup and Restore (if you don’t see this, first click at the top right behind ‘View on’ on Category).
- Click on the left Create a system repair disc.
- Insert a blank DVD into the computer.
- click on Create disc.
Using a recovery drive or disk
For example, if Windows freezes and won’t boot, a recovery drive or recovery disc will come in handy. You can then reinstall the operating system. This reinstallation is only for experienced computer users. Basic settings of the motherboard software have to be changed. Our advice: create a recovery drive or disk and save it in case Windows really breaks down. For the reinstallation itself, get help from an experienced computer user or PCHulp.
