The start of the new Extreme E racing series will be fired at the beginning of next year. Cupra is already registering as a participant.
About two years ago, the Extreme E was announced as a new racing series. In it, electric SUVs have to cover stages through extreme landscapes. Think of it as an extreme version of the already mild Dakar Rally. Just like that race, it is therefore not about standard SUVs, but converted terrain monsters. After Fisker now also let the Spanish Cupra know that they want to participate. The sporting branch of Seat does not do this on its own, because it is joining forces with the renowned German ABT Sportsline team.
Cupra’s CEO Wayne Griffiths, along with the creator of the Extreme E, Alejandro Agag, unveils the car Cupra wants to compete with. It is immediately revealed who will get behind the wheel of the SUV. That should be Cupra ambassador Mattias Ekström, the former DTM champion. Specifications or other information about the SUV remain shrouded in mystery for a while, it is purely a ‘showcar’ to show what the extremist will look like.
The car will be unveiled in a special place. That happens in Hamburg. Not an exciting place at first sight, but at the same time as this unveiling, Cupra will open its first European dealer location there. In addition to a showroom, this first Cupra garage also features a workshop for maintenance of Cupra’s. There, two specialists will set to work. Last year Cupra already opened a dealership in Mexico City. Hamburg was chosen because Germany is the largest sales market for the new Spanish brand.
