Cupra is no longer a label. It has become a fully-fledged brand, which also includes its own model. The Formentor, the first unique Cupra model, is not available as a Seat. Time to undress the model in the configurator to see what remains.
Cupra Formentor 1.4 e-Hybrid Business
€ 43,990
The Cupra Formentor is named after Cap de Formentor, the most northerly point of Mallorca. Given the rugged rocks there, it is not surprising that Cupra has chosen this name, because the crossover looks quite impressive with its sharp lines. He certainly wouldn’t look out of place as a ‘Decepticon’ in the Transformers film series. The Cupra logo also evokes associations with the fictional logo of that one bad guys. Anyway, enough trivia. The Formentor is currently available in two different flavors: as a 204 hp e-Hybrid and as a VZ e-Hybrid with 245 hp. The current top version, the 310 hp Formentor 310, is no longer on the latest Dutch price list.
Both plug-in hybrids have a 12.8 kWh battery pack on board. The theoretical electric range is between 54 and 58 kilometers, depending on the chosen motorization and version. The e-Hybrid, which we take as a starting point for this section, is available in three different flavors: Business, Adrenaline and Performance. The price of the Business is stated above, the other two versions cost € 45,990 and € 47,990 respectively.
Smaller wheels
From the outside, you can only see from the 18-inch alloy wheels that you have to do with the slip-on of the Formentor. The other variants roll on 19-inch. For the rest, the basic version of the Formentor cannot be distinguished from the more expensive versions. The sporty bumpers and matt gray elements at the bottom of the doors, around the fenders and on the mirrors are all standard. The copper-colored Cupra logo is also not to be missed, as are the inserts in the rear bumper in the same color. Incidentally, they must pass for ‘exhausts’.
Cupra Formentor
Since the viewers are quite decisive for the face of the Formentor, it is a nice extra that you do not have to pay extra for full-LED headlights and LED rear lights with dynamic indicators and high-beam assistant. In addition, a light and a rain sensor are standard. Furthermore, rear parking sensors and electrically folding and heated exterior mirrors are included. Privacy glass for the rear side windows and the rear window is also always present on the Formentor. When you walk towards the car, you do not have to manually unlock it with the key thanks to Keyless Entry. In the dark, the Formentor greets you with a projection of the Cupra logo on the ground below the exterior mirror.
Black with copper
In the interior of the Formentor, the copper color returns in the details. The seats of the Business are upholstered in a combination of black leather and fabric and have copper-colored stitching. Furthermore, the copper color returns around the ventilation grilles. An aluminum trim across the width of the dashboard also provides the necessary fringe. Ambient lighting is standard, as is an automatically dimming interior mirror and three-zone climate control. You can also preheat and cool the Formentor remotely. For seat and steering wheel heating you have to be at one of the more expensive versions, because that is not on the Business.
Cupra Formentor
When it comes to connectivity, you will certainly not be short of anything if you opt for the Business. Virtual Cockpit and the 12-inch touchscreen for multimedia are standard. A larger size is not available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included. Cupra Connect, with which you can control certain vehicle functions via an app and, among other things, receive online map updates, is included for 1 year. In terms of safety systems, the Formentor has Front Assist, Multi-Collision Brake, Side Assist and traffic sign recognition on board. Adaptive Cruise Control is also standard.
Apart from other paint colors, there are no separate options available on the Formentor. For a richer equipment you have to look to the Adrenaline or the Performance. With the Adrenaline you get 19-inch light metal, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors with Park Assist, seat and steering wheel heating and a wireless charger for the phone. The Performance then adds Dynamic Chassis Control, a panoramic sliding / tilting roof, Lane Assist Plus and Travel Assist. With the latter option, the Formentor can drive autonomously in traffic jams. The additional costs of these trim levels are relatively limited, but the standard equipment of the Business is by no means sparse.
