Cheapest electric compact SUV

Dacia Spring Electric
Dacia previously announced ‘the cheapest electric car in the Netherlands’. Now we give the first specifications of this compact SUV, which bears the cheerful name Spring.
The Dacia Spring Electric will remain true to the brand values: affordable, a tough look, plenty of interior space and simple, reliable technology. The powertrain may not be the most advanced, fortunately the range (according to the WLTP test) is 230 km. In practice, you will achieve about 175 km, so enough if you are a Dutch commuter. In addition, the Eco button makes it possible to achieve an additional 10 percent extra range with less power and speed.
The electric motor is 33 kW – the equivalent of 44 hp – and the immediately available torque 125 Nm. The Dacia Spring is equipped with a three-position transmission dial. The capacity of the lithium-ion battery is 26.8 kWh. Dacia will offer various charging options, from a wallbox to a 30 kW DC charging point, which will charge the battery pack to 80 percent in less than an hour.

The SUV is 3.73 meters long, 1.49 meters high and offers 150 mm ground clearance. The turning circle is only 9.6 meters. The five-door car fits four adults, who, according to the brand, also have enough leg and headroom in the back. The trunk holds 300 liters of luggage (plus an optional spare tire), with the rear seats down nearly 600 liters. Then there are also storage compartments here and there for 23.1 liters of extra stuff.
Finally the appearance. The reinforced construction at the front, skid plate at the rear, robust bumpers and curved fenders give the Spring a tough look. If you want a more playful appearance, you can order the Orange Pack. The charging connection is ‘hidden’ behind the grille. The rear features Dacia’s new Y-shaped light signature. The order books for Dacia’s electric SUV will open in the first quarter of 2021, then we also expect prices.
