A year ago, it looked like DeLorean Motor Company would finally be really revived. Unfortunately, it has remained quiet since then and it looks like another storm in a teacup. Or is something really coming up?

Rumors of a reincarnation of DMC have been buzzing for years. At the beginning of 2020, it was revealed that the people who now own the brand name were awaiting the ‘Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act’ to start building DMC-12s with leftover parts. Then it was silent for another year and at the beginning of 2021 a teaser from Italdesign suddenly appeared with a modern interpretation of the DMC-12. “What better way to celebrate an icon of the automotive industry than with a glimpse of the (near) future. We’ll keep you posted,” said Italdesign. That sounded pretty concrete, but you guessed it: there is no sequel yet. Now wake up by Newnissans.com surfaced brand logos rekindle the rumours.

The modern DMC, a Texas-based company that has also been in existence for 27 years, has registered these new logos with the US patent office USPTO. In addition to a modern interpretation of the DMC logo, there is also another logo that seems to refer to the Gullwing doors of the DMC-12 (photo 2). Unfortunately, there is not much more to say about it at the moment, but something is bubbling up again. If there was ever a good year to really come up with something new, it is this year. It has been forty years since the last original DMC-12 rolled off the line in Northern Ireland. Disappointing sales, tampering with cash flows and eventually the arrest of John DeLorean put an early end to a striking piece of automotive history.
