Apple brings a handy function to the iPhone, which offers a solution for calls from unknown callers. This is how the new feature works!
Unknown callers on the iPhone
Do you regularly receive calls from unknown callers on your iPhone? In that case you get a handy function! In the latest test version of iOS 26, Apple has added an option to request more information. That happens before your iPhone returns the call, so that you immediately get more information with an incoming conversation of an unknown number.
The new function in iOS 26 is a useful tool for unwanted telephone calls. Calls of unknown callers on the iPhone often come from advertising agencies or are a form of spam. With the new feature, the iPhone automatically answers these calls, first requesting more information. The iPhone then determines on the basis of those answers whether the call is let through. We explain how to enable this setting on the iPhone!
This way you switch on the function
Do you regularly receive phone calls from numbers that you have not saved? These unknown callers are often a form of unwanted advertising, whereby data is collected or even stolen. Yet that is not always the case, so that it can be useful to accept calls from unknown songs. From iOS 26 your iPhone does that for you, so that you do not suffer from unwanted callers. For this you call in the following function:
- Open ‘settings’ on the iPhone;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Apps’;
- Tap ‘telephone’;
- Under ‘Screen Unknown callers’, choose ‘Ask Reason for Calling’.
It is still a test version of iOS 26, so that the new function is currently still describing in English. In a later version of iOS 26 this is translated into Dutch, so that the settings are understandable for all users. With ‘Ask Reason for Calling’, the iPhone first asks for more information from unknown callers. Does the iPhone decide to let the call through? Then the incoming conversation appears on your lock screen, where you can view the collected information directly. You then decide whether you are accepting the call or not.
Release of iOS 26
In iOS 26, the iPhone gives you three options at the settings for calls from unknown callers. You can choose to always let them through, to first ask them for more information or to always keep them still. Don’t expect an incoming conversation from a strange song? In that case you can choose to always keep unknown callers. Do you regularly call with unknown songs? Then the new function is a handy middle ground.
The intention is that ‘Ask Reason for Calling’ filters the majority of the unwanted conversations, but will let important conversations through. This way you are less likely to suffer from unknown callers, because the iPhone performs a first check for you. The function comes to the iPhone with iOS 26, which will be updated in September.
