Have you noticed that your iPhone turns itself off at night even though the battery still has enough charge? You’re not the only one having this problem. Many iPhone users have reported that their device turns itself off at night and stays off for hours.
iPhone turns off at night
The problem came to light when a Reddituser mentioned this on the forum. When he woke up from the alarm, the iPhone showed a prompt to enter the SIM card PIN. Also, Face ID wouldn’t work until he entered his passcode.
The user checked his battery statistics (found in the Settings app, under ‘Battery’) and guess what: the iPhone would have turned itself off between 3 am and 7 am.
The Reddit user was far from the only one with this problem, as numerous other users have experienced the same thing. In all cases, the iPhone would turn itself off around 3 a.m. and would magically start back up a few hours later.
Bug in iOS 17.0.3
The shutdown occurred every time at 3am. It also seems to work in the latest software version: iOS 17.0.3. The bug is not limited to specific iPhone models either, as it appeared on both the new iPhone 15 series and older devices, such as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
A strange bug, although we don’t think the iPhone has been off for hours. When the iPhone restarts itself and a passcode is required, the battery graph stops recording progress. The iPhone probably turned on again immediately. But why the iPhone turns itself off – and every time at 3am – remains mysterious.
We expect Apple to fix the bug in the next software release. Have you also faced the problem? Let us know below in the comments.
