Do you want to clearly visualize your network equipment or streamline your project ideas? Then the open source tool Diagrams.net (formerly Draw.io) is for you.
Step 1
You can find the tool at www.diagrams.net, where you get through Start can work with the online web application without registering. Or you press Download for the desktop application that works offline. We are going to work here with the (portable) Windowsversion, but there are also apps for macOS and Linux.
Step 2
Start the tool and choose New diagram. Give a Filename in a suitable format (xml-drawio, svg, png or html). Optionally, select a template from one of the fourteen sections, such as For Business, Network and Venn. You can therefore choose from approximately 140 designs. Confirm with Create.
Step 3
You can add an object by clicking on it in the left window or by dragging it to the right place. An object can be scaled, moved and rotated with the mouse. You can quickly zoom in and out with Ctrl + mouse wheel. Do you want an image for a router or printer? Then tap that keyword in the search bar.
Step 4
In the menu bar at the top you can find connectors, among other things. Select the desired connection type and drag a light blue arrow from one object to another. You can quickly adjust the connector shape via the circles. Double click anywhere and choose Text to add a text object. From the right pane you can fine-tune the object display, via the tabs Style, Text and Organize.
