DS 8: elongated crossover with e-3008 technology

DS is working on expanding the family. It comes in the form of a major crossover. The SUV flagship shares its technology with the new Peugeot (e-)3008, but is positioned a lot higher.

DS, one of the premium brands of the Stellantis group, started its independent life with the DS 7. That car, then with the addition of ‘crossback’, shares its basis with the outgoing edition of the Peugeot 3008. With the arrival of the new Peugeot 3008 is suddenly a bit old-fashioned. There will undoubtedly be a replacement, but first it seems to be the turn of a car that will be slightly above the DS 7. It is most likely (and logically) called DS 8 and distinguishes itself with a somewhat elongated, liftback-like carriage. It shares this characteristic with other future models from Stellantis, namely the Opel Manta and a Lancia that will probably be called Gamma. The approximately 4.80 meter long DS 8 is part of a triplet that will be built in Melfi, Italy, and together with those models it represents the pinnacle of what Stellantis has to offer in Europe in the field of electric driving.

The car that you see shining above this story does not give much away to the final design. The fact that it is a DS can already be seen from the electrically folding door handles that we also encounter on the other DSs. The headlights will have sturdy LED flares at the bottom, similar to what we see on current DS models. Although SUVs nowadays often have a somewhat liftback-like silhouette, the rear window of this DS is remarkably flat. The window hinges upwards, creating a huge loading opening.

Don’t pay too much attention to the stubborn wheels, which were borrowed from Peugeot for the occasion. The initially electric DS also shares its STLA-Medium platform and electric powertrain with the Peugeot e-3008. That promises something, because with 98 kWh even the apparently less streamlined e-3008 can travel 700 kilometers. The Peugeot 3008 is also available with combustion engines, but we should not expect that from the DS. From this year onwards, DS will only introduce models with a fully electric drivetrain. The DS 8 should be released in 2025.
