Dutch iPhone users miss these cool features

With every new version of iOS, your iPhone gets new functions. However, not all innovations can always be used in every country. The following cool features are not available on Dutch iPhones.

Missing functions on Dutch iPhones

Your iPhone has a lot of useful functions on board and many more useful things are added with every new version of iOS. However, Apple does not allow all features to be used in every country. These are the functions you miss as a Dutch iPhone user.

Apple Card

Since 2019, US iPhone owners can use an Apple Card. Apple Card is actually a credit card from Apple that you can use via the Wallet app.

You also get a physical version that you can put in your wallet, for the stores that don’t accept contactless payments. There are indications that Apple Card will become available in more countries (including Canada), but Apple has said there are no international plans yet.

Apple Cash

Another feature that is only available in America is Apple Cash. You can compare this function with the Tikkie app. You can use this to send a payment request or a specific amount of money. You do this via the Wallet app or the Messages app. You can also have the money you receive deposited directly into your account.

Also for Apple Cash there are no plans yet to release the feature internationally.

Add driver’s license to your iPhone

At the beginning of 2022, Apple made it possible to add your driver’s license to the Wallet app in America. This makes it easier to identify yourself or prove you are old enough to buy liquor or cigarettes.

This feature is not available everywhere even in America. For example, you can currently only use the function in Arizona, Colorado and Maryland. Apple has announced that nine more US states will follow.

Apple has indicated that they are working on releasing the function throughout America, but it is not known whether you will see one of these functions on a Dutch iPhone.

Advanced Data Protection

Apple recently introduced a new feature that provides extra protection for various things in your iCloud. They do that through end-to-end encryption, also known as end-to-end encryption.

Sent messages, photos, videos, documents and more are encrypted from sender to receiver. This way only you and the person you are communicating with can read, listen to or play the messages.

It is an optional feature that you can turn on or off yourself. The feature has been available to US users since iOS 16.2. Apple has said that the feature should be available to the “rest of the world” in 2023.

Clean Energy Charging

With iOS 16, Apple introduced new features to charge your iPhone. With Clean Energy Charging you can ‘reduce the ecological footprint of the iPhone’. iPhone does this by optimizing charging at times when the grid uses more cleaner energy sources.

Apple uses data on CO2 emissions from US government services for this purpose. It is not yet known when this feature will be available in other countries.

More iPhone functions not available in the Netherlands

Several functions have not been available on Dutch iPhones for years. You can still activate some of these features by setting your iPhone to a different region.

Sometimes the functions become available automatically when you step across the border. For example, are you going to England? Then the SOS emergency notification via satellite is available there on the iPhone 14 (Plus) and iPhone 14 Pro (Max). You will sometimes see the icon appear at the top right in the metro.
