Electric Ford Transit on the way

Interesting news from the United States: Ford confirms the arrival of an electrically powered Transit. The successful delivery van comes on the market in 2022 with an electric power train.

Ford is further expanding its EV efforts, not only looking at passenger cars. The Ford Transit also benefits from the brand’s electric future plans. In America, Ford announces that the Transit will also be available as a fully electric version by 2022. Broadly speaking, that is a production version of last year’s Transit Smart Energy Concept.

In the attached teaser picture we see the current Transit in broad outline. Do not expect a completely new generation, but there will undoubtedly be various outward changes to show that it is a new, electrically powered version. That also means that the current generation, which has been running for six years, will continue for quite a while.

Ford still has the specifications under its cap. Not entirely surprising, because it also takes a considerable time before the time comes. The Smart Energy Concept had a radius of approximately 150 kilometers. That will probably be a bit more in the production version. Furthermore, Ford says that the electric Transit will be built in the US and there is still no mention of markets other than the home market. Whether the Transit will also come to Europe with electrical power is not yet certain, but we expect that.
