EV proves to be an excellent tow car
Are you on the hunt for a new car to tow your mobile home from here to here in Europe this and coming summers? Then you can also go for an electric car. The electric Kia EV6 has been crowned Tow Car of the Year 2024 by the ANWB Camping Champion.
Last year, the Nissan X-Trail was voted the best caravan tractor by the KampeerKampioen. This year that title goes to a very different model: the electric Kia EV6. The Kia EV6 apparently made quite an impression in the annual Towing Car of the Year election. The Kia EV6 left behind, among others, the Ford Kuga PHEV, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Smart #1 and the new Volkswagen Tiguan with mild-hybrid 1.5.
The tested version was also a remarkably modest one. The six-member ANWB and professional jury did not drum up a 585 hp EV6 GT or 325 hp version with four-wheel drive, but ‘simply’ a rear-wheel drive EV6 with a 229 hp electric motor and the 77.4 kWh battery pack. After all, that is the engine version you need for the greatest possible electric range (up to 528 kilometers). The range with a caravan was 220 kilometers during the practical test. Sufficient, according to the jury. That motorcycle version has a maximum towing weight of 1,600 kilos behind its name. During the test sessions, a loaded caravan with a total weight of 1,350 was hanging behind the Kia EV6. The ANWB applauds the fact that the adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection remain active when a caravan is connected. The usable luggage space also played a role in achieving the victory, writes the KampeerKampioen.
