Long lasting, EQXX delivers low average consumption

The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX has once again been crowned an economy wonder. The experimental electric concept car has once again covered more than 1,000 kilos on a full battery. That is not a record for the model. However, the average consumption of the Vision EQXX during its last monster tour was lower than ever.
It has been more than two years since Mercedes-Benz pulled the curtain on the Vision EQXX. This is a study model that mainly served as a showcase for the technologies that Mercedes-Benz has in its breeding rooms for future EVs. The Vision EQXX must above all be efficient. Although the driveable prototype is already several years old, the Germans are preventing it from disappearing from view. In 2022, Mercedes-Benz already sent the EQXX on a major road trip twice. At the time, the car could travel 1,008 kilometers with a full 100-kWh battery without having to recharge. The average consumption during that trip: 8.7 kWh/100 km. The second time, the Vision EQXX squeezed no less than 1,202 kilometers from a full battery pack. During that trip, the Benz achieved an average consumption of 8.3 kWh/100 km. Mercedes-Benz has now driven the slick EV from Riyadh – the capital of Saudi Arabia – to Dubai. That 1,010 kilometer journey does not give the EV a personal distance record. But a different record!
The 1,755 kilo heavy and almost 5 meter long EV achieved an average consumption of 7.4 kWh/100 kilometers during that 1,010 kilometer journey. Please note: Mercedes-Benz did not purely aim to completely empty the battery in order to achieve maximum driving range. The EQXX covered the 1,010 kilometers in 14 hours and 42 minutes. The car stood still for almost 2 hours due to a driver change and waiting at a border crossing. Including standing still, the average speed was 68.7 km/h. Purely in motion, the average speed (over 12 hours and 45 minutes) was 79.4 km/h. The EQXX also achieved a speed of 140 km/h at least once. During the ride, the solar cells generated 1.8 kWh of solar energy. This gave the car 24 extra drivable kilometers. Since its presentation more than two years ago, EQXX has traveled 23,340 kilometers.
