Electric pick-up Volkswagen off the track

Not now, maybe after 2030

Electric pick-up Volkswagen off the track

For the time being, it seemed that Volkswagen was busy behind the scenes with the development of an electric pick-up. However, that new EV that is particularly interesting for the American market will not come.

Pick-ups such as the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado cannot be found in the United States, so it is not surprising that electric equivalents are also available from such models. Ford has the F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet is coming with the Silverado EV and Ram is in turn working on an electric 1500. In addition, there are brands such as Rivian and Tesla that have developed or are developing an electric pick-up for the American market in particular to have. Volkswagen doesn’t have an electric pickup in its North American model lineup, but it seemed to be coming. What turns out now? It’s not coming anyway.

The head of the American Volkswagen branch Pablo Di Si tells Automotive News that the electric platform, which the Volkswagen Group uses for its more off-road-oriented models of its new Scout brand, will not be used by Volkswagen models for at least this decade become. Di Si does agree that the platform may eventually become available for other brands of the Volkswagen Group, but that this is not a priority at the moment. “Currently, our focus is on strengthening the SUV range. Later we will look at a possible pick-up, but now is not the time,” said Di Si.
