The 208 is currently Peugeot’s absolute success number. Last year, the 208 was not only the best-selling new passenger car in the Netherlands, but even throughout Europe. It is therefore very important to Peugeot to keep its small hatchback up to date. To keep the attention, the model will soon get a facelift. These photos show the renewed electric Peugeot e-208 for the first time.

At the beginning of 2019, the Peugeot 208 as you know it today made its international debut. He immediately received a fully electric variant called e-208, which contributes considerably to the international success of the small Peugeot. They are now both over four years old. Crossover brother 2008 underwent a facelift this year and it looks like the 208 will soon get a refresher in a similar way.

The current Peugeot e-208.

In this set of photos we see the renewed electric Peugeot e-208 for the first time. It will get – probably like the combustion engine versions – a considerably revised front. As with the updated 2008, Peugeot removes the three vertical LED elements from the headlights and replaces them with three smaller LED segments. The single vertical LED spout in the bumper – indeed just like the 2008 and 508 recently – may be replaced by three copies. This seeps an important new design element from the Peugeot Inception Concept to the 208. Its grille will soon be filled in by an extensive collection of diagonal ornaments and the lower cooling opening in the bumper will grow a bit. It is not yet visible in these photos, but it is likely that the grille, just like the 2008 and 508, will visually merge into the bumper and will therefore no longer be framed so tightly.

More visual news relates to the logos and the back of the Peugeot 208. It still has the previous Peugeot emblem and not the current ‘retro’ logo that we find on the 308 and the updated 2008 and 508. At the rear we see sharpened taillights. Here too, the three vertical LED elements have to make way. Diagonal LED segments are likely to replace it.

There is also news to report about the interior of the Peugeot 208. It looks like it will get a considerably larger infotainment screen. We also see a different steering wheel – complete with the new but still taped Peugeot logo – and the center tunnel is also undergoing changes. The traditional automatic lever, and in this case the lever that determines the direction of travel of the e-208, makes way for the smaller selector switch that you know from other recent Stellantis models.

Peugeot previously presented the e-208 with the new 156 hp powertrain with 54 kWh battery. That powertrain was initially only available in the GT, but is not available at the time of writing. We aim for the renewed e-208 to at least get this powertrain. We also assume the arrival of 100 hp and 130 hp 1.2 PureTech petrol engines. Mild hybrids will follow in 2024.
