Does an electric passenger bus of at least about 2,500 kilos go well with a sporty label? At least according to Volkswagen. The Volkswagen ID Buzz gets a sporty top version and it is that ID Buzz GTX that can already be seen quite well on these spy plates.

For a long time, the passenger car version of the Volkswagen ID Buzz was only available in one variant. The ID Buzz was only available in a ‘short’ form and always had a 204 hp electric motor and a 77 kWh battery pack. Earlier this year, the electric ID Buzz was joined by an extended version. It is about 25 centimeters longer than the previously released model and has a wheelbase that has increased by the same number of centimeters. It is that Volkswagen ID Buzz ‘LWB’ that will also be available with a 286 hp powerful electric heart and an 86 kWh battery. But there’s more. It also comes as a sporty ID Buzz GTX.

It was already known that Volkswagen has a GTX version of the ID Buzz in the pipeline. After all, every ID model would get a GTX variant, including the ID Buzz. In this set of photos, the ID Buzz GTX is already clearly visible, almost without any form of camouflage. You can recognize the ID Buzz GTX in these photos mainly by its front bumper. With its larger cooling opening and vertically oriented elements on the corners, it is different from any other existing ID Buzz. Whether the ID Buzz GTX will be filled with optical extras? We aim for that to work out. After all, GTX is the electrical equivalent of GTI – not R – and the existing ID4 GTX and ID5 GTX are not visually garish appearances either.

Speaking of those ID4 GTX and ID5 GTX: they have two electric motors with 299 hp together. The Volkswagen ID Buzz GTX seems to be a lot more potent. According to previous reports, the ID Buzz GTX will be 340 hp strong. The 204 hp ‘short’ ID Buzz reaches a speed of 100 km/h from standstill in 10.2 seconds. With an extra 136 hp, the GTX variant undoubtedly knows how to take a few seconds off that.

Since Volkswagen is already sending the ID Buzz GTX out without stickers, we expect a public debut not to be long in coming.
