‘Chinese brands are extremely good’
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk believes that the Chinese car manufacturers have things going very well. In fact, Musk says that without tariffs, Chinese carmakers will “effectively destroy all other carmakers.”
Tesla’s Elon Musk was asked about his views on Chinese automakers during a conference discussing fourth-quarter 2023 financial results. Musk appears to be quite impressed by the Chinese car makers. The CEO calls Chinese car makers not only ‘extremely good’, but also ‘the most competitive in the world’.
According to Elon Musk, Chinese carmakers are so competitive and good that ‘without import restrictions or tariffs they will essentially destroy almost all other carmakers’. Whether Tesla is willing to work closely with Chinese manufacturers? Yes and no. Developing cars together is not an option, according to Musk, but Tesla would certainly be open to allowing Chinese car makers to use its autonomous software and hardware ‘and other technology’ from Tesla under license.
