BMW M4 patent

BMW is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of its M division this year and apparently that party is far from over. AutoWeek has in fact surfaced patent plates of a very extremely dressed BMW M4 Coupé.

With the first M3 Touring ever, BMW already treated itself and the M enthusiasts to something delicious, but the 50th anniversary of the M-existence seems to lead to more delicacies. BMW has already indicated that it will come with an M4-based 3.0 CSL Hommage, but AutoWeek has now surfaced patent drawings that BMW has filed in China showing an almost absurd-looking M4 Coupé. What exactly BMW plans to do with the crazy M4 is not entirely clear to us.

BMW 4 Series

The BMW M4 is 480 hp strong, but in the form of the M4 Competition also has a 510 hp powerful alternative. Above that, the M4 CSL has recently been added, an extra fierce variant that with its 550 hp is a lot more powerful and also lighter than its less fortunate brothers. On the tracks the M4 GT3 and GT4 tear around and this M4 reminds us of just that.

What makes the BMW M4 so striking on these patent drawings? Well, the body kit that the car carries makes this M4 a fierce appearance, but it doesn’t seem extreme enough for a purely track-specific variant. But we doubt whether this BMW M4 can go on public roads. Take a look at the rear window. Or rather, the missing rear window. The four M chutes find their way there through a set of slats to the outside. In addition, this mysterious BMW M4 has a duck tail, a spoiler that in this case has two higher parts. We dare not tell you what the hook on the back of the roof should represent.

Whether the placement of the exhaust pipes means that the six-cylinder has been given a place behind the front seats is not clear. It wouldn’t surprise us all anymore, though. We probably only have a fierce show car here, although it cannot be ruled out that BMW is planning more with this bizarre colossus.

[UPDATE] Thanks to the observant AutoWeek reader Luuk, it is now known what is behind these fierce M4s. They are specially converted M4s for the Driftmasters championship with over 1,000 hp and 1,200 on the rear wheels. Team Red Bull Drift Brothers has entered into a partnership with BMW’s M division for these fierce M4s.
