Ex-Mercedes employee demolishes dozens of new vans

A laid-off employee at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Vitoria, Spain, ended 2020 by demolishing a series of brand-new Mercedes vans. It is a revenge action against his former employer.

Mercedes-Benz builds the V-class and the Vito in the northern Spanish factory. It does so with over 5,000 employees, at least one of whom was told just before the end of the year that it would stop for him. The 38-year-old man was reportedly so outraged about this that he decided to proceed with revenge just before the turn of the year. He got hold of a shovel, drove it to the factory and wreaked havoc there. The Spaniard scooped and rammed according to Perodismo del Motor more than 50 brand new V-classes and Vitos that were ready to be delivered. Other sources speak of as many as 70 cars. After this, he reportedly tried to make another way to the factory production line to disable it, but the man was stopped and arrested in time. The total damage is estimated at more than € 5 million.

Daimler announced just before the end of the year that jobs will be lost in the factory, which has been operational since 1954. Initially, it concerns 500 temporary workers who no longer have to come. Permanent staff may also follow in the spring. In this case it is probably one of the temporary workers. The job cuts led to a lot of unrest among the staff, but one person could no longer keep calm. You can find pictures of the damage done here.
