Expired driving licenses are valid for longer

Driving licenses that have expired or will soon expire will remain valid for longer, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management reports Thursday.

The leniency scheme is necessary because it can be difficult for some people to meet the renewal requirements. This could of course be a result of the corona measures. These are driving licenses that expire between December 1, 2020 and March 1, 2021. They remain valid until March 1.

Drivers remain insured and will not be fined if they are stopped. The extension also applies to professional drivers who must have the so-called mandatory code 95 in their driving license. The scheme also applies to Europeans residing in the Netherlands with an expired driving license from another Member State. Expired driving licenses were also renewed last year. That happened during the ‘first wave’.
