Search, edit and send WhatsApp GIFs
It has been possible for a while to search and send gifs in WhatsApp. While other apps clearly show this function, WhatsApp is a bit hidden. This means you really have to look for the position in a targeted manner. We are happy to help you on your way. In this article, we will not only explain where to find the gifs, but also how to edit, save and search for them in an alternative way.
Search gifs via WhatsApp
To search for gifs directly via WhatsApp, complete the following steps.
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone;
- Choose a conversation from the chat overview;
- Tap the sticker icon in the typing bar;
- Your keyboard will now change into an overview of stickers. Tap the ‘GIF’ button at the bottom to go to gifs. Here you can quickly select one;
- There is a magnifying glass icon at the bottom left. Tap this. Now you can search extensively in Giphy’s database.
Here you use words that describe a poison in general. For example ‘applause’, ‘no’ or ‘face palm’. Then choose a poison. If you tap a GIF, you first get the chance to edit it.
Editing Gifs in WhatsApp
If you choose a gif here, you will first be given the option to edit it. Many other services do not offer this option. You will see a bar at the top of the screen. If you drag the sides in, you make sure that the poison is trimmed in length. If you press the crop button, the gif can be trimmed or rotated in size.
You can also decorate the gif by adding stickers, text or drawings. Tap the emoji button to place an emoji as a sticker that you can resize. For text, tap the letter ‘T’ and you will be given the option to type words and phrases in any color. With the pencil you finish the poison by drawing over it. If you want to undo an edit, press the back arrow at the top of the screen.
Are you ready? Then you have the option to add a caption, but it is not mandatory. To send, press the blue send button. If you don’t want to edit anything, you can also click this button directly.
Save gifs as favorites
If you use the Giphy search engine, you don’t have to look up your favorite gif every time. You can mark gifs as favorites. To do this, hold your finger on the poison for a few seconds in a conversation. In the menu that then appears you will find the option ‘Mark with star’. Tap to save the gif.
To find saved gifs, go to the same place you normally look for gifs within WhatsApp. At the top of the screen are several tabs, with your most recently used and favorite GIFs on the far left. You can find your favorites here under the star icon. Your last used GIFs are collected under the clock to the left of it.
Search and send GIFs via Gboard
Another easy way to search for gifs is through Gboard. This keyboard from Google has a built-in gifs search function. To search for and send GIFs in WhatsApp via Gboard, complete the following steps.
- Open WhatsApp;
- Open a conversation;
- Tap the G icon in the top left corner of the keyboard;
- Type your keyword and choose ‘gif’ at the bottom;
- Select the gif you want to send by tapping on it, and Gboard will copy the gif to your clipboard;
- Tap the text field and press ‘Paste’ to edit and send the gif.
