We all know we should actually read more. The Blinkist app makes absorbing the lessons from non-fiction books very easy.
Blinkist makes reading books realistic again
We are all secretly aware that we have to read more books. But yeah. We also have to watch that one series on Netflix, a new game has just been released and we are actually too tired now. Certainly when it comes to non-fiction from which we can learn something, it simply does not happen. The Blinkist app offers a solution.
Many non-fiction books are full of padding. If you want to learn the lessons the writer is trying to convey, you often have to grapple yourself through chapters full of anecdotes and repetition. The idea of Blinkist is that you only get the most important lessons and other pieces from books presented, so that you can read each book in fifteen minutes.
Read or listen
The app contains thousands of books in different categories such as science, productivity, sex, personal growth and parenting. With each book Blinkist briefly indicates what kind of book it is, but more importantly for who the book is. Some points indicate who can benefit from it.
You then have the option to read or listen to the summary. The summaries are divided into chapters. This gives you the choice to read or listen to the book in one sitting in fifteen minutes, or take a few minutes every now and then to read a chapter. You can enlarge or reduce the text to make it easier to read. The audio can also be accelerated if you want to spend even less time.
Subscription or free
It is a pity that Blinkist is not completely free. That makes sense, because the authors behind the books do it for a reason. In addition, Blinkist itself also offers a service by summarizing and recording the books. The premium version of Blinkist costs 6.67 euros per month. With premium, you can read unlimited, send the books to Kindle and sync with Evernote. If you don’t need those extras, you can opt for the plus version of Blinkist for 4.17 euros per month.
Nevertheless, the app is also free to use. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to choose which book you read, but Blinkist selects a free book for you every day. That’s fine if you want to surprise yourself with books. Every day you choose whether you find the chosen book interesting or not.
Not always hit
If you’re using the free version, it doesn’t always hit the spot. The book that the service chooses for you does not always fit well. It is also good to notice that the knowledge does not linger well when you read summaries one after the other. It is therefore not for nothing that writers write a lot around it. That helps to retain the information. Still, Blinkist is a unique way to read more, without taking up too much time. The app is also perfectly fine.
