Eyeballs # 22: Drafts is the ideal starting place for all your texts and thoughts

There are tons of apps in the App Store for keeping your notes, but which one are you using? Drafts: Quick Capture is, in our opinion, the ideal starting place for all your texts and thoughts.

If you want to quickly write something down on your iPhone, there are countless apps for that. Maybe you just use Apple’s Notes app for that, or Google Keep to sync your notes across multiple systems. These apps work well, but there is room for improvement. Drafts: Quick Capture is, in our opinion, the ideal starting place for any text on your iPhone. Whether it is a thought, shopping list, e-mail, text message or whatever else.

Simplicity

Drafts has the ideal combination of pure simplicity and yet plenty of options. That simplicity is first and foremost in the fact that you open the app and can write directly on an empty surface. This means that there is as little time as possible between grabbing your iPhone and recording the thought or other note that you want to keep.

In addition, the app has no distractions. You don’t have to think about the form in which you put the note, or what you will do with it. You just have to write. But don’t let this simplicity fool you, because the app has a lot of power.

Actions

All notes you make are stored in an inbox. That is the place where you come back later and take actions. When you view a note and press the button at the top right of the screen, you will be welcomed with a whole host of options. It may be a bit overwhelming the first time, but these options have everything you need.

The first option is to copy the text to your clipboard at the touch of a button and then paste it into any other app. In addition, you can also e-mail the note, send it as a text message, export it, print it and share it on Twitter. It is also possible to send the text to your iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote and so on. Drafts really offers a starting place for your texts, but then lets you send them to all other places to continue working on them.

It is also possible to tweak the app to your liking via customizable javascript actions, but you don’t have to worry about that if the app works to your liking.

You get used to it quickly

It’s surprising how quickly Drafts gets used to. Every time we want to remember something, we open the app to write it down and then forget it again. Check the inbox later to see what we have noted down and whether anything needs to be done with it. Some notes can go straight into the trash, others need an action and others are fine in the inbox for the next day.

That works much better than having to first think about which app you need when opening your iPhone. Are you saving a draft of a tweet in Twitter or Notes? Where do you write that email that you want to send later? Where do you store that thought so that you actually look at it again instead of it disappearing among the countless other notes? You may have your own system that works, but if not, consider Drafts.

Widget

It is also possible to place a Drafts widget. In the widget you can see how many notes are still in your inbox and may therefore still need actions, but you can also quickly start a new note by typing or talking. By expanding the widget you can also see the titles of your notes. There is also an Apple Watch app.

Drafts: Quick Capture is fairly pricey, but we think it’s worth it to get your thoughts in order. You can find the app in the App Store via the link below.
