In recent years, using Face ID on the iPhone has become a lot more difficult for many people because of the mouth cap. However, that comes to an end in iOS 15.4. iPhoned tells you why!
Face ID with mouth cap
When you have an iPhone with Face ID, wearing a mouth cap is often extra annoying. Face ID cannot recognize your face and you have to fall back on your access code.
That will change in iOS 15.4, because there will be a special function to set Face ID with a mouth cap. When you install iOS 15.4, you will automatically be asked to set up Face ID with a mouth cap. If you want to set it up later, you’ll find the option under ‘Settings > Face ID & Passcode’. You can set up Face ID with a mouth cap in the following way.
Set up Face ID with mask to unlock iPhone
- Go to ‘Settings > Face ID & Passcode’;
- Switch on the slider at ‘Use Face ID with a mouth cap’;
- Choose ‘Use Face ID with a mouth cap’ (you don’t have to wear a mouth cap for this);
- Tap “Get Started” and move your head slowly to complete the circle;
- When wearing glasses, you will need to take off your glasses and perform another Face ID scan;
- Tap ‘Done’ to complete the setup.
Do you have multiple glasses? Then you have to have your face scanned again for each pair of glasses. You do this by tapping ‘Add glasses’ under ‘Use Face ID with a face mask’.
More new features in iOS 15.4
We already know what the next major iOS 15 interim update will bring. While there was nothing new under the sun with iOS 15.3, the next update has a lot to offer. Want to know what more features are coming with iOS 15.4? You can read all about it in the article about the iOS 15.4 beta features!
Using Apple Watch to Unlock iPhone
As early as iOS 14.5, Apple added a feature to unlock your iPhone with an Apple Watch. This function also comes in handy when you have Face ID and wear a mouth cap or, for example, a tie. You must have set a number code on your Apple Watch for this. Are you wearing the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch is unlocked? Then the iPhone will be unlocked as if you were using Face ID.
Do you want to know exactly how to set this up? Then read the following article briefly: Set up Face ID with a mouth cap and Apple Watch.
