Facelift for Renault Kaptur

Renault is selling the Kaptur in Russia, a car that is not what its name suggests. The special Russian is now subject to a facelift.

Renault’s Russian model range cannot be compared with the list of models that the brand offers in Europe. Just like in many non-European markets, models that we know in Europe from Dacia go through life in Russia as Renault. In addition, Renault in Russia has the here unknown Arkana on the price list and it sells the Kaptur. That Kaptur is a special case. Although the coach of that car shows strong external similarities with that of the previous generation Captur (with a C-), the model has nothing to do with that European compact crossover. This is because under the skin a variant of the B0 platform is hidden, a basis that we know from the Dacia Logan, Sandero and Duster, among others. It is this Kaptur that resembles the European primordial Captur and is now undergoing a facelift.

The Russian section of Renault only shows two pictures of the updated Kaptur and from those pictures it can be seen that the external changes are not exactly radical. For example, the Kaptur gets a new grille with chrome-colored elements and Renault makes a set of new light-alloy wheels available. A modernized infotainment system is given a place in the interior and the special Renault now has a higher center armrest.

However, the subcutaneous adjustments are more interesting. The Kaptur will be placed on a thoroughly updated version of the B0 platform. The Arkana that Renault sells in Russia is already on that revised variant of the well-known Renault / Dacia platform. In total, around 55 percent of the platform would have been updated. The Kaptur not only benefits from renewed power steering and improved suspension, but also from a new power source. The Kaptur will be available with the 150 hp variant of the blown 1.3 that is also available in Europe in various models from Renault and Dacia. The atmospheric 1.6, which delivers 114 hp, remains available.

The ‘Russian Kaptur’ is also sold in Brazil and India, among others. However, the car in that form goes through life again as Captur.
