Facelift Friday: Toyota Prius Wagon / Prius +

Due to all the hybrid violence of the other models, the Prius has increasingly been pushed into the background. This applies even more to the wider Prius +. The car that was initially called Toyota Prius Wagon in the Netherlands is still for sale in 2020!

The names issue requires explanation. For reasons that are still unclear, the Dutch importer chose the little Dutch-sounding ‘Prius Wagon’ for the car that elsewhere in Europe was called Prius +. That ‘Prius +’ is now just on the butt in the Netherlands. The car is now called simply Prius +. Yes: this car is still available new! It is one of the best kept secrets of the Dutch price list, but anyone who transfers at least € 38,445, will simply receive a new Prius + at the door.

Versatile

In America, the same car as Prius V goes through life, where the V stands for ‘versatile’, or versatile. And versatile, that’s the big Prius for sure. The car is based on the previous, third generation of the Prius and also shares its 136 hp hybrid powertrain. In this case, however, instead of a streamlined five-door carriage, a somewhat higher, but still slightly teardrop-shaped MPV carriage is folded over it. The Prius Wagon is much more of a space car than a Wagon and offers space for seven passengers as standard. Combine that with proven reliability, a very economical powertrain and a standard automatic transmission and you have a great family car, although such a high Prius is of course far from exciting.

Early on the led

The Prius Wagon appeared on the market in 2011. A facelift followed in 2014, which is what it’s all about today. The differences between the first and second batch are particularly visible at the front. The taut Prius Wagon looks a lot meaner from his eyes, through headlights that are more compressed and now slightly angled. The grille was given a more distinct V-shape and the air opening at the bottom of the bumper was optically stretched above the number plate. To the left and right of it, there have been narrow intake vents without direction indicators for six years now, because those indispensable lighting parts are now incorporated into the headlights. Design detail: LED headlights are now standard, but were also available in 2011. With that, Toyota was really early on in this area.

The rear lights have also been fitted with LED technology from the start. The color of the light units is ‘new’. Except for the rear fog light, they were completely white except for the original, but since 2014 both lamps have a red surface. At the same time, a slightly modified rear bumper appeared.
