Factory reset iPhone

factory reset iphone(1)

If you sell your iPhone or want to start with a clean slate, you can reset the device to factory settings.

By factory resetting the iPhone, the phone is blank and bare again. Just like when it first came out of the box. It is a grueling process as all settings and data will be erased. There are two reasons for doing this: the phone is not working as well anymore and you hope to fix it by refreshing it. Or the iPhone goes to someone else and you don’t want your data left on it.

If the iPhone goes to another person, follow the steps in the tip ‘Clean iPhone before disposal’. Then you can be sure that no remains of your personal data are left on the iPhone.

If you are going to use the iPhone yourself, you can first make a backup and then restore it. You then have your apps and data at hand. This tip is only about factory resetting iPhone. When this is complete, go through the iPhone setup again from the beginning.

    • Tap on Institutions.
    • Tap on General.
    • Scroll down and in iOS 15 tap Transfer or reset iPhone. From iOS 12, tap Reset.
    • Tap on Clear all content and settings.
    • In iOS 15, tap Continue. From iOS 12, if necessary, tap Delete now.
    • Enter your access code.
    • Tap on Erase iPhone.
    • If necessary, tap again Erase iPhone.
    • If necessary, enter your Apple ID password and tap Erase.

The phone is cleared. This may take a while. Wait patiently for the process to complete. The phone will first go black and then reboot. You can then reinstall it or get rid of it.
