Apple shows off the iPad Pro 2021’s powerful hardware, but is the tablet really that fast? Benchmarks show that the device is a significant improvement over its predecessor.
iPad Pro 2021 speed tested
Benchmarks show that the iPad Pro 2021 with M1 chip is indeed a lot faster than its predecessor, the 2020 iPad Pro. Test results show that the latest iPad Pro outperforms the previous Pro tablet by 51 percent, in line with Apple’s claim that the device is 50 percent faster.
The iPad Pro 2021 is even more powerful in benchmarks than the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which has a smooth Core i9 processor. Only last year’s MacBook Air, which also has Apple’s M1 chip, is a fraction faster than the iPad. The iPad Pro with M1 chip is also convincing in the graphics field: according to the benchmarks, the tablet is even 71 percent more powerful here than its predecessor.
The M1 chip, one of the most important improvements of the latest iPad Pro, performs significantly better in benchmarks than the A12X chip of the previous iPad. The tests also show that the processor performs a lot better than the Intel chips that are in MacBooks. According to Apple, the M1 chip is also a lot more economical, which means that the iPad Pro will last a long time.

The iPad Pro 2021 was announced at Apple’s April event. In addition to the M1 processor, the tablet also has 5G support and a brand new mini LED screen. The latter is only on the largest iPad Pro (with a 12.9 inch screen). The 11-inch version still has to do with an LCD display.
Mini LED has a higher contrast than LCD and is also more energy efficient, which is good for battery life. Due to the new screen technology, the iPad Pro with 12.9-inch screen is more expensive: 1219 euros vs 899 euros that you pay for the 11-inch model. The iPad Pro can be ordered in the Netherlands since April 30 and will be delivered to the first users in a week and a half.
