The now Chinese MG today sends out a series of sketches of a cool newcomer: a two-seater convertible. It is the Cyberster concept car. A great time to explore the wonderful world of iconic real MGs of yesteryear with a limited budget of € 5,000
MG F.
Those looking for a used MG without many requirements can already proudly call themselves a British convertible from € 949. For that amount is currently the cheapest MG F for sale. For that money, the seller delivers an original green (plus points!) Convertible from 1997 with 243,564 kilometers of experience. However, the accompanying words “link is due for replacement” do cause some extra headaches. Anyone with a slightly larger budget will get a lot less worries, because with € 2,375 in your pocket, this MG F is yours! With, for example, a ton less experience and a new coupling, it looks a lot happier. If you feel the entire budget of € 5,000 burning in your pocket, you can visit Soest. For € 4,950 there is a very late MG F from after the facelift with less than 72,000 kilometers of experience and a leather interior. In these times you have to tickle yourself a bit. The K-series engines are not known for their reliability, however, clutches are no rarity.
MG ZR
If you don’t care about a convertible, but don’t necessarily need a lot of space, you can look for an MG ZR. There are currently three copies of the compact hot-hatch version of the Rover 25 for sale. The first one for € 650, but it honestly seems ripe for a new series of Barrel Brigade, so we prefer to continue right away for its slightly more expensive brothers. The newest ZR is looking for a new owner for € 1,745. This dates from 2005, but has the most experience with 212,017 km on the clock. Under the hood is a 1.4 with 103 hp. Nothing else has been tinkered with this copy and the half-leather chairs still look common. For the practical people among us: it has a tow bar, handy! For € 300 more, a 2004 ZR is for sale with slightly less experience (161,293 km), but previous owners have not been able to hold back on the Brit. For example, the three-door got a set of new wheels, an extra-large pop pipe protrudes from the rear bumper and various interior parts are painted in red for no apparent reason. The now empty holes that once housed gigantic speakers, partly reveal what past this car has behind it.
MG ZS
The number of offered MGs ZS for less than € 5,000 has been reduced to exactly one copy for € 2,450. The sporty brother of the Rover 45 gets for that money a 2.5-liter V6 with 177 hp and is one of the last original British MGs. It was registered for the first time in 2005. The sedan has air conditioning, sports seats and a radio with Bluetooth and DAB +. Now I hear you think: was that possible in 2005 ?! Well no. It was built in later. Oh and the experience of this ZS that can reach a maximum of 224 km / h? 254,610 km clean on the hook!
MG ZT
The number of ZTs that are offered for sale is also considerably reduced, because even now there is only one copy of this sporty version of the Rover 75 for sale. Unfortunately not with the Ford V8 offered at the time, but “only” with the well-known 2.5 V6. However, in the larger sedan, this block is good for slightly more power: 191 hp. At the back you stuff 432 liters of luggage, a sprint from a standstill takes 7.7 seconds. Maybe not earth-shattering, but for that time and for the type of car not bad at all. The offered copy dates from 2003 and has run 185,328 km. The current owner hopes to get € 3,499 for it.
MG ZT-T
More of a fan of stations? Then there is good news, because there are still a handful of ZT-Ts for sale. For less than € 2,000 even. A snag? Okay, this ZT-T has 446,164 km on the clock. Although that is a considerable mileage, the BMW 2.0 diesel with (only) 131 hp should be able to cope with that. In 2004 someone bought it for € 40,263, now the current owner is still asking € 1,999 for the spacious station. Prefer no diesel? Then there are two other copies for sale on petrol. Again not with the hoped V8, but with the 2.5-liter V6. Two black copies are waiting for a new owner for € 3,950 and € 4,950 respectively. In terms of experience, both cars do not differ very much, namely 163,906 and 182,322 km. The cheaper of the two is not entirely original anymore, because one / the previous owner built an LPG tank in it. Unprecedented for the time is the equipment, because in addition to Xenon headlights, amenities such as climate control, full leather upholstery and navigation are neatly present.
