Ford builds 150,000th Mustang Mach-E

Almost 5,000 for the Netherlands

Ford builds 150,000th Mustang Mach-E

Ford has assembled the 150,000th Mustang Mach-E. The car came on the market in 22 different countries last year, but should be available in 37 countries by 2023. Almost 5,000 of the 150,000 units built were fitted with a Dutch license plate, making the Mustang Mach-E relatively successful. However, some competitors – especially this calendar year – are doing a bit better, according to the sales figures.

When Ford unveiled the Mustang Mach-E model name, the world was turned upside down for a moment. The brand dusted off its famous Mustang name for the umpteenth time, but this time not for a coupe or convertible with a thick combustion engine, but for a crossover with an electric powertrain. The birth of the first fully electric Ford had to hit like a bomb and no sacred cow was safe from that – not even that of the ponycar.

It has certainly done Ford no harm. The manufacturer is pleased with the demand for its first EV and seems happy to report that the 150,000th example of it has now left the factory in Mexico. In fact, demand is so great that Ford stopped offering the Mustang Mach-E in some markets in the spring of 2022. They simply could not keep up with the demand. It is now doing well again with meeting the demand. In fact, from next year Ford wants to produce about 230,000 units per year of the Mustang Mach-E.

Compared to the competition

The Mustang Mach-E was also in great demand in the Netherlands, although this mainly applies to the first year (2021) in which the car was delivered. In that year, Ford sold 4,144 here. So far this year, 666 electric ‘Mustangs’ have been fitted with yellow plates, bringing the total to 4,810 units. The car is doing relatively well with this, because the brand sold 4,266 of the Ford Kuga, for example, in the same period.

If we look at how the competitors are doing in the meantime, the Mustang Mach-E is coming along nicely in terms of total sales numbers over 2021 and 2022. However, cars such as the Skoda Enyaq or the Volkswagen ID5 have less to do with a drop in sales numbers in 2022 (compared to 2021) than the Ford.
