Ford Escort is very strong as MST Mk1 Evolution

The next project from British Motorsport Tools (MST) is the ‘MST Mk1 Evolution’. A considerably boosted ‘first generation Ford Escort’ with more than 370 hp – from an atmospheric four-cylinder (!).

Calling the British MST a tuner of Ford’s Escort of the first and second generation is actually too short-sighted. The North Wales company makes completely new bodies of the aforementioned models and then fills them with quite potent technology. It is beyond the term ‘tuning’. In addition, the company remains close to the essence of the old Escorts. In all their projects there is still a longitudinally placed, naturally aspirated four-cylinder under the hood that sends its power to the rear wheels via a sequential or manual transmission.

In the case of MST’s latest project, the Mk1 Evolution, that is a very potent four-cylinder. It is a block from Millington’s so-called Diamond series. In it you will find four-cylinder engines designed for competition purposes that are often installed in Escorts intended for rallying. In the case of the Mk1 Evolution, it is the most potent variant of it: one with a displacement of 2.8 liters. From that content, Millington pegs to about 370 hp and over 400 Nm of torque, without a turbo or supercharger. Even better: although the Millington engine of the Mk1 Evolution is intended for competition use, the car will be ‘just’ street legal.

First sketches

In order to release the forces of the four-cylinder on the asphalt a bit, MST is expanding the wheel arches of the Escort coach with new carbon fiber front and rear screens. This makes it possible to fit larger and wider wheels and tires. That is necessary, because a lot of weight does not press on the rubber – you have to generate traction in some way. Also MST’s creations are usually purely for competition use, so they are always quite lightweight. We don’t have an exact figure yet.

On the attached images you can see the first sketches of the upcoming tyrant. When it will experience its market introduction is still unclear. If you want to purchase one, you should – in addition to having very deep pockets – contact Motorsport Tools in advance.

MST also provides a small update on its upcoming Metro 6R4 recreation: the company hopes to present a first prototype this summer.
