The Ford Kuga PHEV is Europe’s most popular plug-in hybrid. That keeps the car full for a long time, and that at a time when the PHEV as a whole is losing some popularity.
The Ford Kuga PHEV was already the most popular plug-in hybrid in Europe last year. In the first half of 2022, the Ford does not have to relinquish that title, because again this is the sales king of the PHEVs in Europe. In total, Ford has already sold 23,000 of these in Europe this year, which is 28 percent more than the second most popular plug-in hybrid, according to the brand. Ford itself points to the fairly large electric range (up to 67 km in mixed use) and the low energy consumption as reasons for the success of the Kuga. With us, the Ford recently had to recognize its superior in the facelifted Citroën C5 Aircross, but the Kuga scored points with its low consumption and fine handling.
As the most popular PHEV, the Ford Kuga is also the only plug-in hybrid in the top 10 sales of ‘plug-in cars’ in Europe. The other 9 cars in that list are fully electric. Following Inside EVs, the Ford finished in seventh place, one place lower than in 2021. Then a total of 46,448 ‘plug Fords’ were sold. As a whole, the share of plug-in hybrids is decreasing. Earlier it appeared that 12 percent fewer plug-in hybrids were sold in the first half of 2022 than in the first half of 2021, while fully electric cars were sold significantly more often.
