Ford Mustang Mach-E GT gets V8 roll from Shelby

‘Shelby Mustang’: it already sounds tough and is immediately reminiscent of mean-looking, mud-fat Mustangs with an equally mean-sounding V8 under the hood. However, the latest Shelby Mustang, the now presented Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT, is electric. Still, lovers of a strong V8 roll need not grieve, because the car is equipped with a V8 sound generator from Borla. We know that brand as an aftermarket exhaust manufacturer, especially for American ones muscle cars.

We dare to doubt that the electric Shelby sounds just as tough as its less environmentally friendly brothers due to that sound generator, but that should not spoil the fun. Shelby went much further in tackling the Mustang Mach-E GT, which includes some carbon fiber sheet metal parts, new wheels and striping. The result is a rather fierce appearance (which shows similarities with the earlier concept), which distinguishes the GT variant of the Ford Mustang Mach-E a lot more from its less potent versions without GT addition than usual.

To convert your regular Mustang Mach-E GT into a Shelby version, you must transfer at least €24,900 to Shelby Europe. The brand then mounts its upgrades on existing cars, because the package cannot be ordered ex-factory. It is limited to 100 units and is intended to contribute to the performance of the Mustang Mach-E GT, without Shelby taking care of the powertrain. It remains – also with the Shelby – 487 hp strong.

How does the Shelby get extra potency? Well, this is ensured by lightweight wheels, more aerodynamics, further weight savings and an adapted chassis. Whether the weight saving also leads to a shorter standard sprint time than the ‘regular’ 3.7 seconds is still unknown.
