Rare combo

See here: one of the last Fords Orion ever, now offered in the AutoWeek used range. The asking price is firm, but the car – which had only one previous owner – is there to be taken through a ring. Does that justify the hefty amount for you? Then you might be able to take a trip to Friesland this year.
The offered Ford Orion is for sale in the Frisian Sybrandaburen, just above Sneek. The car probably made its kilometers mostly in that region, because the car apparently never covered great distances. After just under thirty years, according to the provider, there are just over 113,000 kilometers on the clock. According to the provider, because the counter of the modest Ford is one with five digits. However, the condition of the car does not give any reason not to believe this story.
The only thing we can catch it on is the slightly loose seat upholstery. Furthermore, the Orion looks damage-free and spotlessly clean, both inside and out. Although the car is not on a set of light metal, the still complete set of hubcaps fits it beautifully. Add to that the fact that the Fordje ‘just’ has black bumpers, has little luxury and does it with the basic engine (69 hp!), and it is difficult not to be charmed by it.
From after the facelift, but before the name change
Moreover, it is also a very rare thing. Now the undersigned cannot remember when he last saw one, but the Ford Orion in the form as it is now for sale was only there for a short time anyway. It is one after the facelift, but before the name change – and they were only built for one year. An Orion, of course, is the sedan version of the Ford Escort (fifth generation, in this case). When that car was facelifted in September 1992, the sedan also got a breath of fresh air. It wasn’t until a year later, September 1993, that Ford decided that the four-door-with-ass would now also have to go through life as an Escort. With that, after three generations, the name Orion came to an end.
The car in the photos can be recognized as a ‘facelift’ by the grille with rounded sides. You can also immediately distinguish an Orion from an Escort hatchback, station or convertible on that grille, because the sedan was the only one to have a chrome strip in it. Furthermore, the off-centre Ford logo on the back is characteristic of this generation, although it was present on both the pre- and post-facelift.
All in all, the Ford Orion on offer is one of the extinct kind. Not only was the car only built for a short time, the others have long since disappeared from the streets. That is why it is all the more fun that it is in such a good and original condition. Even the original radio is still there. Or that justifies the asking price of €4,975? The name of the section already gives it away: we are once again looking for a real enthusiast.
