It has been four years since Ford revived the Puma model name by sticking it on a crossover with Fiesta technology. To maintain the considerable interest that Ford manages to attract with the model, the crossover will soon receive a facelift. We can already show you the renewed Ford Puma – still in test suit.

Autoland screamed murder and fire when Ford indicated that it would stop with the Fiesta. There is certainly something to be said for that, a model name that has provided decent sales figures for 47 years, of course, you don’t just throw it in the trash. Whether model name Fiesta will ever return? That remains to be seen, of course, but that Ford draws a line through the model itself is actually less surprising. The Ford Puma already turned out to attract more customers than the Fiesta and Focus combined in mid-2021 and in the European registration figures for, among other things, the month of May, we find the Ford Puma just not in the Top 10, but the Fiesta regularly no longer even makes it into the Top 25 for. All attention is therefore focused on the Puma, which will also receive a facelift after about four years.

The arrival of the facelifted Ford Puma probably coincides with the introduction of a fully electric version of it. That will be an important model, as Ford does not have a compact EV in its range and in countries such as the Netherlands, electric models in the B segment (hatchbacks and crossovers) are selling like hot cakes. The remarkably fanatically camouflaged Puma in this set of photos, however, is not that electric Puma. We just see an exhaust pot hanging under the rear bumper. Very intensely, the Puma does not seem to be renewed. Expect new bumpers, re-arranged headlights and a Ford logo now housed in the grille instead of the bumper section between the bonnet and grille. We also focus on – how could it be otherwise – innovations in the field of infotainment.

In the Netherlands, Ford does even better business with the Fiesta than with the Puma, although the two cars are quite close to each other from a sales point of view. In 2022, for example, 3,214 new Fiestas were registered in our country against 3,044 Pumas. For the first six months of this year, the registration counter of the Fiesta stands at 1,467 units, that of the Puma at 1,394 units.
