Do I have to pay a deposit and what happens if I return the car at the end? We have collected 33 frequently asked questions with corresponding answers.

Are the low prices from advertisements baiters?

Many cars are offered for less than € 200 a month, but often these are basic versions without, for example, air conditioning or a good sound system. Sum you get a benefit of € 30 per month if you allow your car to be labeled with advertising.

Do I have to make a down payment?

No that is not necessary. You sometimes have to pay a deposit. The amount depends on the credit check and varies – for an A-segment car, for example, it is € 200 to € 600. The deposit will be fully refunded at the end of the term.

For what period can I lease?

This is possible at most providers for as little as 24 months. Periods of 48 or 60 months are chosen the most, because then the monthly amount is relatively the lowest.

What about damage after burglary?

Damage is repaired immediately and if desired a replacement car can be used.

Do I have to pay extra for more kilometers?

As a lease driver, you estimate in advance how much you will drive per month on average. For example, more trips are made during vacations. The contract can be adjusted in advance, but you can also choose to pay the extra kilometers afterwards for a kilometer surcharge. This varies from 5 cents to 15 cents per kilometer.

Do I get a refund for fewer kilometers?

Most providers have a minimum kilometer bundle of 10,000 or 12,000 km per year, for example. If you drive less, there will be no settlement. If the customer has taken a larger kilometer and he is driving less, it is often possible to switch to a smaller kilometer bundle in the meantime.

Is there a final period?

No, you only have to return the car at the end of the lease period.

What happens if the contract is prematurely terminated?

Just like when buying a car, you write off the car more quickly. Those costs are charged to the customer.

What are the benefits of a private lease for me?

You drive a new car without investment, for a fixed monthly amount. Maintenance, repairs, tires, replacement transport, breakdown assistance, depreciation and interest are included.

Do I also pay addition?

No, this is only the case with a company car.

Do I have a deductible in case of damage?

Yes, that is the case with most car insurance policies.

Suppose the front tires are already slippery after 15,000 kilometers, what then?

Regular tire wear is included, 15,000 kilometers is not necessarily positive or negative.

Can anyone drive my lease car?

Anyone with a Dutch driving license can drive your lease car.

Do I build up a claim with my insurance?

Depends on the provider. Many providers deliver a unit product. Some providers do offer customized work, take the accumulated no-claim and settle this in the monthly amount.

Is there an income test?

Yes.

Is there a minimum age for the driver / contract holder?

Yes, 18 years old.

Is the lease price fixed for the entire period?

Basically it is. There is nevertheless a flexible aspect: the customer decides which kilometer package best suits his or her needs. This can be adjusted in the interim if necessary.

Where can I have the car serviced?

Depends on the provider. As a rule at a brand dealer or Bovag garage. Usually the brand dealer who delivered the car.

Can I trade in my current car?

With some providers that is possible. Usually you get an amount based on commercial value directly deposited into your account. That will not be much. It may pay to sell your car yourself.

What happens if I return the car at the end?

The car must be returned without damage, with the exception of usual ‘traces of use’. If there is damage to the car or there is a persistent smoke smell in the interior, then costs for repair will be charged.

Is the registration number in the name of the leasing company?

No, that of the driver. Any fines will therefore go directly to you.

Are administrative costs charged for fines?

Can a self-employed person offset the VAT?

No, the car is not ‘in the business’. He can, however, declare the kilometers driven for business purposes.

What is the difference between private and business lease?

With a business lease, the company takes on the obligation and the driver has a tax surcharge for his / her private use of the car. With a private lease, you are independent of an employer, you do not pay an addition and you decide which car you will drive.

Can I take over the car at the end of the contract?

Most providers do.

Is there insurance in case I am left without income?

Can I assemble the car completely according to my wishes
