Fuel prices rise to new record high

The increase in fuel prices does not seem to have a ceiling at the moment. Today, according to consumer collective UnitedConsumers, prices have risen sharply again. For the first time, the petrol price breaks through the €2.25 per liter.

To be precise, the average suggested retail price for a liter of Euro 95 is currently €2.265, increasing this amount by 2.8 cents compared to yesterday. The price increase for diesel is 1.8 cents less sharp. For a liter of diesel you now pay an average suggested retail price of €1,935. These suggested retail prices usually only have to be paid along the highway, but also along country roads it is hardly possible anymore to find petrol that costs less than €2 per liter.

The sharp rise in fuel prices is leading to a change in our refueling behaviour. Fuel card operator MoveYou found, for example, that there is considerably more refueling at unmanned pumps than before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. On the one hand, this ‘hamster behaviour’ is to prevent even higher prices, but it is also a major shift from mainly the expensive highway locations. More and more employers no longer want their staff to refuel with the lease car on the highway.
