Geely pulled the curtain on the Xigyue L in Shanghai. A hefty and quite opulent SUV that shares its base with cars like the Volvo XC40 and Polestar 2.
Geely expands its offering on the CMA platform shared with Volvo and Polestar with this Xingyue L. An SUV that will not only be at the top of the Geely food chain in size. The Xingyue L is – as the name implies – the Xingyue’s big brother. It is also slightly higher in the market than the Preface, a sleek sedan that also has the CMA base under it. Geely does not give detailed dimensions yet, but with a wheelbase of 2.84 meters it is clear that it is a stroke larger than the Volvo XC40 and Polestar 2 that we know here on that basis.

Not only in size, but also in appearance, according to Geely, this should clearly be the new flagship of the Geely brand. The car is designed entirely in China and for China. Nevertheless, Geely states that the Xingyue L will eventually also be found in markets outside China. There are “global plans” for this model. Who knows, maybe the Xinyue L will eventually also visit Europe, although it is still the question under what name.
In that case it also seems likely that Geely will spoon an electric powertrain into it, as is of course possible with the CMA base. It is not yet there. The Xingyue L has a blown 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine (which we also find here in Volvos) that – depending on the chosen version – delivers 218 hp and 325 Nm or 238 and 380 Nm hp. The power goes to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic from Geely or eight-speed automatic from Aisin. The fastest version of the Xingyue L sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds, according to Geely.

The interior of the Xingyue L is very charming. It looks tidy and modern, the largest of which is eyecatcher the dashboard properly laced with monitors. In fact, right next to the steering wheel an information screen starts that is no less than one meter wide and only stops again on the far right of the dashboard. We don’t get to see the infotainment system yet, but this is promising. Suede upholstery, a Bose audio system with ten speakers, high-quality materials and mood lighting that can be set in 72 different colors further provide a luxurious experience. In addition, the Xingyue L level 2 can drive autonomously and can independently drive to a parking space and park up to 200 meters away from the driver. Through over-the-air updates, Geely keeps the Xingyue L sharp and rolls out more functions in the long run.
In China, the Xingyue L can already be ordered in a few weeks, we are eagerly awaiting what Geely is planning with it outside of China.
