Genesis G70 also comes as a Shooting Brake

The Infiniti G70 is about to undergo a thorough facelift. During that side-session, the delivery range is expanded with a new body variant. This is the Genesis G70 as a Shooting Brake!

The G70 is Genesis’ answer to cars like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Lexus IS that you can’t buy in Europe at all. The current model, presented in 2017, will be updated shortly to bring the sedan back into full alignment with its fresher relatives. For example, the car gets a nose and buttock section that is designed according to Genesis’ most current design language. The luxury division of Hyundai, however, is bigger. For example, the G70 line is expanded with a slick station version, a car that has now turned up in a camouflage suit.

The arrival of the ‘shooting brake’ -like variant of the G70 is no longer a shocking surprise. In April this year, Genesis already showed a teaser image that showed a bunch of newcomers to the brand. On that dark plate, a relatively compact station wagon of the brand, according to Genesis standards, was already visible. Don’t expect a particularly spacious beast of burden, the sharply sloping roofline and the apparently sloping buttocks of this new G70 variant leave no doubt that we are dealing with a lifestyle station. That means: a slickly lined station wagon where form has priority over function.

Genesis teaser

Just like the facelifted sedan, this G70 Shooting Brake has a front where the headlights have two characteristic horizontal LED strips. The lighting at the rear is also optically cut up. The style of the rear light units is very similar to that of cars such as the redesigned G80, G90, GV80 and the yet to be revealed smaller Genesis SUV. The brand once had grand plans to enter the European market, but they currently seem to be on the back burner. Should Genesis ever come to our part of the world, the renewed G70 together with this station variant and the aforementioned medium-sized SUV of the brand seem ideal cars to build a European portfolio with. In that case it is important for the Dutch market that Genesis also brings the blown 2.0 to the Netherlands, a machine that is known, among other things, from the Kia Stinger to which the G70 is related.
