Genesis competes here in Europe with the well-known ‘premium brands’, with the G70 being one of its most important weapons. It is self-willed in itself, but as a Shooting Brake completely.
Hyundai wants to do with Genesis what Toyota has done with Lexus: as an Asian brand, the luxury brands from Germany will be challenged. It does not do this simply by building cars that are clearly inspired by the competitors, but by working in a quirky way. The recently facelifted G70 should make it difficult for cars like the BMW 3-series and Audi A4. Now, the G70 looks by itself since the facelift – just like the other models – already nice and unconventional, but in terms of body shapes Genesis takes it a step further.

There will be no regular station wagon version of the G70, but a car that can be described more as Shooting Brake. It first appeared two months ago. Now he has appeared in front of our spy photographer’s camera for the second time. You don’t have to be a sleuth to recognize the two-layer lighting that is so typical of Genesis between the camouflage. It is also easy to see how the window line slopes almost as backwards as on the sedan, but a higher roofline can be spotted in the structure at the back. Probably the camouflage hides an extra side window behind the rear door and one for a ‘station wagon’ rather sloping D-pillar.
Genesis is expected to pull the curtain off the G70 Shooting Brake in the first half of 2021. The same year as when it planned to enter the European market. It is therefore no coincidence that the G70 Shooting Brake makes test kilometers at our eastern neighbors. We are curious whether the cold sweat already breaks out in Ingolstadt, Munich and Stuttgart.
