One more facelift for the G70

Genesis, the luxury brother of Hyundai and Kia, wants to skip the hybrid stage altogether. So don’t expect full hybrids or plug-in hybrids from this brand, but purely traditionally powered cars or full EVs.
Genesis has already shown that it is safe to come with electric versions of existing models. That already happened with the Genesis G80 and Genesis GV70, but can also happen with the other models based on already established model names. The electrification of the premium Koreans is going fast, because from 2025 it does not want to introduce cars with a combustion engine at all in Europe. Models that have already been launched may then remain for a while, but will not be replaced after ’25, or by an EV. In 2030, the moment should therefore come when every car in the European range of Genesis is fully electric. As a result, it will also increasingly use platforms that have been specially developed for EVs. The Genesis GV60 already shares its technical basis with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 and will undoubtedly receive a sequel in the future.
Facelift for G70
If we look at the current range, all but one car is still quite fresh. That one is the G70, the most compact Genesis. That car already appeared in 2017 and was then the third model of the Genesis brand, which was separated in 2015. It followed after the first G80 and the first G90, but both have since been replaced. The G70 received a very rigorous facelift in 2020, and was also presented as a Shooting Brake a year later. Interesting, and yet we do not expect this generation of the model to appear as an EV. However, we picked up an interesting piece of news: the G70 will get another facelift at the end of this year, so that the car can still take it.
Genesis G70 Shooting Brake
The larger Genesis GV80 SUV and Genesis G90 limousine are both still very young and so in theory perfectly suitable for full electrification, although that does not mean that Genesis also sees a market for it in these segments. In Germany, the GV80 is offered with a 2.5-liter turbo petrol engine with 304 hp, and a three-liter diesel with 272 hp. Outside of Europe, there is also a 3.3-litre petrol V6. The G90 also has a blown V6, but is still the only model that is not on the European menu. Genesis is still investigating whether it makes sense to change that. This also applies to the question of when Genesis will come to the Netherlands. If that happens, it will most likely be purely electric models.
