German federal states send Stellantis CEO fire letter for Opel

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares receives a spicy letter from the Prime Ministers of three German states. The reason: the worrying developments surrounding Opel in those states, about which they say they were not informed in advance.

These are uncertain times for Opel and its German employees. The factory in Eisenach will close until next year, the same factory and the one in Rüsselsheim are being sold by Stellantis and now the head office in Rüsselsheim is also in danger of being stripped down. The authorities of the concerned federal states (Thuringia and Hesse) say they were not informed in advance about the closure of the Eisenach plant and the eventual sale of the two German production facilities. That reports Reuters. The board of the Land Rhineland-Palatinate also agrees, as Opel’s third German factory is located in Kaiserslautern.

The prime ministers of the German federal states have drafted a letter for Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, urging him for more ‘open communication’. The Prime Ministers of Thuringia, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate write according to Reuters: “You, Mr. Tavares, yourself assured the former PSA Group that there would be open and honest communication about the future of Opel Germany with representatives of states with Opel facilities. We now turn to you with our concerns in this letter , before confidence is shattered by more unexpected news from Stellantis.” The political leaders of the federal states hope to be able to sit down with Tavares as soon as possible.
