Typing words is old-fashioned. The new Giphy Says app instantly turns the things you say into speech clouds and instantly turns them into gifs.
Giphy Says turns speech into written text
Giphy has been the go-to place for all things gifs for years. Today, Giphy draws a line under that position with the new Says app. As the name suggests, speech comes first. After you have given the app access to your camera and microphone, you can immediately start recording. While recording a gif, Giphy Says listens to what you say. Your words are then written out live in a speech bubble on your screen.
Although Dutch words are also recognized, the app has difficulty keeping up with fast talkers. After you have spoken the text, you can add punctuation marks by tapping on the letters. Afterwards you can immediately share your creation via almost all social networks. Or you just save the gif in your camera roll. By swiping the screen from left to right, you scroll through the different ways in which Giphy Says can display the text.
Right on time
Giphy has deliberately kept the app as simple as possible. The only option is to record, turn the flash on and off, and switch between your iPhone’s front and rear cameras. The timing of Giphy Says is striking, as Apple is also about to launch a camera app that converts speech into written text. At Clips, however, the question is whether the Dutch language has been supported from day one. Giphy Says is now available for free download for iOS. You need iOS 10 or later to use the app.
