Possibly a two-door Giulia
Zagato swings through Instagram stories a teaser of the ‘Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato’ into the world. It may be the long-awaited, high-market coupe from Alfa. Until now, a collaboration with Zagato was not in the picture, but now it is. The car is expected to be presented in the first half of 2023.
For some information about the possible arrival of a potent coupe from Alfa Romeo, we would like to refer you to this article. In short: Alfa Romeo has been calling for a new model in the spirit of the Alfa Romeo 8C since 2018. That wouldn’t happen later, and later it would. Until now, the name Zagato was not mentioned in the light of that new, sporty Alfa Romeo coupe, but now it is that Italian design house that is launching a teaser for the ‘Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato’.
It may be the car we will know as ‘the long-awaited Alfa Romeo coupe’. If so, we expect to be able to see what the barely visible car looks like as a whole in the first half of next year. On the heater we only see a red line, which in all probability represents the light strip at the back. Earlier we wrote that it gets a design inspired by the Alfa Romeo T33 Stradale from the 1960s. If we look at the back of it, we see broadly the same shape. On the teaser we do see an elevation in the middle of the light strip, where the T33 Stradale has no elevation in the middle of its butt.
Shortened Giulia Quadrifoglio as base
Furthermore, the name mentioned in the teaser suggests that it shares its base with the Alfa Romeo Giulia – and probably has the 2.9-liter V6 from the Giulia Quadrifoglio in its nose. The two-door Zagato does get a shorter wheelbase, as evidenced by the addition SWB (short wheelbase). Furthermore, it is in line with expectations that its power source is tickled for a capacity of more than 600 hp.
It will take some time – probably six months at the most – for definitive values. It is not necessary to start saving in advance. We expect that Alfa Romeo and Zagato will only build the car in very small numbers, so the chance that you can purchase one (at a very high price) is very small in advance.
